The HHSAA Heritage Scholarships were established in 2008 when some members of the HHSAA Board initiated a letter campaign to HHS alumni to give back to HHS by requesting donations to present scholarships to deserving seniors at Move Up Assembly. The first year four $500 scholarships were presented. Since 2009, the scholarship has been a $1,000 scholarship. This continues as an annual campaign and as of 2024, $321,000 has been awarded as HHSAA Heritage Scholarships. This is an amazing feat for a public high school, but HHSAA Alumni continue the tradition each year.
The Thomas Orr Scholarship was established in 2021 to honor his many contributions to Hendersonville High School and the innumerable students Tom (Class of 1957) influenced as a teacher. This is an endowed scholarship with enough funds at present to award a $1,000 scholarship each year to a senior who is considering a career in English and/or Theatre. We continue to accept contributions to grow this endowment and the scholarship amount.
The Mary Elizabeth Blair McLeod Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship established in 2018 by her family to honor Mary Lib (Class of 1946) for all her contributions to HHS. The Mary Elizabeth Blair McLeod Memorial Scholarship seeks a designee who is planning to major or minor in Music, needs financial assistance, and is a student who embodies the same compassionate mindset as Mary Lib McLeod. The McLeod family hopes this scholarship inspires the recipient to pursue personal and musical excellence even into adulthood.
