HHS HALL OF FAME 2017 INDUCTEES

Mike Norman

Mike is a 1976 graduate of Hendersonville High School and actually helped cut the ribbon on the new gym as a senior. After graduation he went to work for Henderson County and then General Electric; however, he continued to help coach at HHS. Mike went back to school at Western Carolina and got his degree in education and for the next 26 years taught and coached at the middle school and high school. He won many awards and his strong work ethic and constant pursuit of excellence continued to be passed on to his players and students. Service and helping are simply in his blood.

Sharman Norman

Sharman began teaching at Hendersonville High in 1979. She taught math for 30 years and helped build the Keywanettes into one of the most active and important clubs at HHS. She also helped with many other extracurricular activities and was named Hendersonville City Schools Teacher of the Year. Sharman dedicated her entire teaching career to developing the full self of every child she taught. She is a true champion in the eyes of her students and fellow teachers and is remains a respected member of this community.
 

Campbell “Cam” Boyd

Cam graduated from HHS in 1963. Over the years he built Boyd Buick and Cadillac into one of the top automotive businesses in the area. Cam has served the Hendersonville community on the boards of Flat Rock Playhouse, Pardee Hospital, First Citizens Bank, President of Hendersonville Country Club, President of Historic Flat Rock, Inc., past director of the Rotary Club and a longtime member of the Chamber of Commerce. He continues to be a strong supporter of charity and educational functions both financially and as a volunteer. He also established the Boyd Foundation which offers scholarships at Blue Ridge Community College.

James Barnette Jr.

James is a 1952 graduate of Hendersonville High School. After graduation Jim went on to get his economics degree from Furman University. He then spent 3 years in the Army and continued his service with the National Guard until retiring in 1988. In 1970, he opened Barnette and Coates Insurance with John Coates that later became Century 21. Jim is an active member of the Elks Club, the VFW and the American Legion. He has also served as president of MLS and as president of the Board of Realtors Association.

David Tolbert

David graduated from HHS in 1974. After college David became a lawyer practicing in Charlotte. He later became an international lawyer specializing in the areas of justice and human rights. David has served as Deputy Registrar and Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague. He went on to be Registrar for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, United Nations Assistant Secretary General, and is presently President of the International Center for Transitional Justice in New York. He continues to be a role model for individuals exemplifying the values they should aspire to preserve.

Don Munson

Don is a 1980 graduate of Hendersonville High School. Don began his broadcasting career at WHKP working local high school games. His hard work has made him one of the top college football broadcasters in America. He has been the voice of Appalachian State football, UNC Asheville basketball, Western Carolina football and now is well known as the voice of the national champion Clemson Tigers. As head coach Dabo Swinney says, Don is and always has been a true professional. And though he now speaks for the Tigers, he is still proud of his Bearcat heritage and sings the praises of HHS whenever he has a chance.
